Lucha Libre means “free wrestling.” It’s incredibly popular in Mexico and completely staged. Men and women wearing shiny, elaborate masks battle it out in the ring, but not for real. It’s a highly choreographed performance with a storyline that develops over time. In the center of this photo, you can see one of these wrestlers showing off his biceps. The problem, though, is that he’s not muscular at all, which makes the mask feel more fitting for a fetish party.
In the lower left, you can spot several monkeys. One of them is raising his arm to smash the skull of a bull lying in front of him with another bone he’s holding. This is a famous scene from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, set to the magnificent music of Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra.
