Duchamp was a famous artist who came up with the idea of placing a urinal in a museum, thus transforming it into a work of art simply by changing the context in which the object was placed. Sometimes a trash can is no longer just a trash can, but an art object that has lost its original function. I don’t think this trash can gets emptied very often anymore, yet as an art object, it still serves a purpose. From trash bin to artwork—an upgrade? Is being useful not more important than providing aesthetic pleasure? Utility is necessary but dull; it doesn’t add color to life.
For me, this trash can has been upgraded. I’ll throw my garbage away elsewhere.
