Frida Kahlo de Rivera has recently gained a sort of cult status, and I’m not entirely sure whether everyone is truly familiar with her work. That’s unfortunate, as her oeuvre certainly deserves that recognition. I once saw her work in Amstelveen, at the Cobra Museum. Frida was a courageous woman who, after a terrible accident, had to spend much of her life in pain, often bedridden. Art didn’t cure her, but it did heal her, as is the case for many artists. She had a relationship with Diego Rivera, also an artist, best known for his murals. Their relationship was as intense as their art.
