A beautiful summary of the Corona period. Above, a poster with #Staysafe, and below, a large eye. It’s, of course, a coincidence that these two images appear together in one photo. The artists probably didn’t respond to each other but worked independently.
Still, they make a striking combination because together, they so effectively capture the debate that raged during the Corona period. At the top, a friendly reminder to stay healthy, and below, represented by the eye, the idea of an all-seeing presence. It also echoes the theory that Corona was being exploited by an almost invisible elite seeking to take control of everything.
An eye that could also symbolize a government increasingly watching over us and taking away our freedom. In Turkish culture, by the way, there is a similar symbol meant to ward off evil. In that sense, too, the composition makes sense. Corona was an evil.
