What a beautiful abstract piece this is, spray-painted on a wall. I saw this image in El Cabanyal, a disadvantaged neighborhood that will soon turn into a yuppie area, given how fast it’s ‘improving.’ To get a good photo, I had to make my way past a few addicts who were using right by the wall. They were using heroin, a drug that seems to be a bit out of fashion these days.
Addicts don’t scare me, I feel more pity for them. I work with them at the Salvation Army. They are people with a lot of bad luck and a great need for the wrong solutions, nothing more. They are the outcasts of society, but not to me. I greeted them and took my photos. Afterwards, I gave them a few euros, which they probably didn’t spend on a place to sleep.
